Big Data: It's Here and Bigger!

Speaker Bios:

Michael Pack is the director of the Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Laboratory (CATT Lab) at the University of Maryland and the chair of the Visualization Committee for the National Academies Transportation Research Board. He works to improve transportation operations and make data more readily available, usable, and understandable to diverse communities through visualization and visual analytics. He has previously worked for the University of Virginia’s Smart Travel Laboratory and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Center for Transportation Analysis.

John Parker is a traffic operations manager for the Pennsylvania Turnpike. John has been in the transportation industry for 18 years and has worked with over 10 large cycle databases. He has implemented and managed big data analytics solutions for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). He has facilitated the Oracle Endeca implementation for PennDOT and is now heavily involved in using QLIK at the Pennsylvania Turnpike. John lives in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Matt Shirk is a member of the GeoAnalytics team and specializes in business intelligence & data analytics at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Prior to joining the PTC, he spent 12 years as a business information management consultant, working in multiple industries, both public and private. His vision of the possibilities for analytics, unique architecture methodologies, and a pragmatic project management approach provided the jump-start to the analytics program at the PTC.

Kelley Pecheux is the director of transportation operations and safety at AEM Corporation. She is conducting leading research and applications in TIM performance measurement and management. She was the PI for NCHRP 07-20 Guidance on TIM performance measurement. She and her team are currently working with 36 states through the FHWA Every Day Counts program to improve the quantity and quality of data for TIM analysis. She is also currently the PI for NCHRP 17-75, Leveraging Big Data to Improve TIM. She received her Ph.D. in civil engineering from Penn State in 2000.
